On July 3rd, a factory in Luoyang completed the production of a 3,500-ton crane 18-meter-diameter split three-row cylindrical roller slewing bearing independently developed by the company.  This slewing bearing has achieved breakthroughs in both size and design and manufacturing in the domestic bearing industry.

The slewing mechanism is the core component of the crane, bearing the lifting load and slewing function. Due to the restriction of the slewing bearing (turntable bearing), the slewing mechanism of heavy cranes has always adopted the roller slewing mechanism. For cranes with the same lifting capacity, the overall dimensions of the slewing bearing crane are about 20% smaller than those of the roller type, and the weight of the crane is about 25% lighter. At the same time, the slewing bearing has the characteristics of low friction, easy maintenance, easy replacement, and long service life. It is the best choice to replace the slewing mechanism.

The person in charge of the factory said that the research and development of the super-large split slewing bearing has achieved import substitution, providing a guarantee for the development of high-performance, long-life, high-reliability, and low-cost offshore heavy cranes.

According to reports, this set of slewing bearings is an external gear three-row cylindrical roller combination structure. The whole set of products weighs 168 tons, the outer diameter is 17753.6mm, and the maximum safe lifting load is 200,000 tons. "During the design process, we adopted different unequal multi-segment structures of inner and outer rings, staggered step overlap, and exquisite design of pin precise positioning. The bearing structure is compact and easy to maintain, which effectively controls the overall weight of the slewing bearing, improves the bearing capacity and reliability of the slewing bearing, and all indicators meet the design requirements."

In addition, during the product design and manufacturing process, the friction reduction design, the one-way logarithmic curve modification of the parallel roller, and the directional assembly, the precise control of the intermediate frequency quenching of arc-shaped parts, and the deformation control of the intermediate frequency quenching process were also overcome, and 2 invention patents and 4 utility model patents were formed.

The main person in charge of the China Bearing Industry Association said, "The launch of this bearing marks a new breakthrough for Chinese companies in the field of slewing bearings for marine engineering equipment, and the overall technology has reached the international advanced level."
